Spring Shooting League

Times: Boys and Girls, 540-700 pm

This 3 week league that bridges the gap from community club basketball season to AAU basketball season. It also is a great kick start to a summer shooting program. The league is designed specifically to improving your shooting percentage. A player’s shooting percentage is directly related to their shooting mechanics, footwork, shot readiness (physical and cognitive), ability to create space, decision making and confidence. Each one hour session will focus on improving these skills and applying them to competitive small sided shooting games. There will not be 5 on 5 games. Games will be smaller and faster to allow more opportunities and repetitions for each player. The modern game requires all 5 players on the court to be able to shoot the ball at a high efficiency, allowing for appropriate spacing and pressure on the defense. Start building your better shooting now!
Session 1 – Focus On Footwork – the shot flows from the ground up, so that is where we start.
Session 2 – Flow and Finish – building off week one’s footwork we will finish the shot on the top
Session 3 – Shooting off the dribble and Basketball Decision Making and Mental Readiness – learn how to know when to shoot before you even have the ball, learn how to create space with the ball
Cost: $90

This 4 week program is designed to improve a player’s ability to shoot, create space, relieve pressure, finish near the basket, use screens and make decisions/reads. Each one hour session will focus on improving these skills and applying them to competitive small sided games – 2V2 and 3v3. Constraints applied to these games will expedite the application of the skills focused on for that week. There will not be 5 on 5 games. Games will be smaller and faster to allow more opportunities and repetitions for each player. The modern game requires all 5 players on the court to be able to shoot the ball and score, allowing for appropriate spacing and pressure on the defense. These skills will be transferable to games regardless of the team or system you play in.
Session 1 – Attacking and Relieving Pressure off the Dribble: Develop ball handling, attacks
and counters to get past your defender and to the basket. Create space with various drags,
escapes and step backs. Relieve pressure for passing and driving lanes with retreats, hip
swivels and scissors.
Session 2 – Finishing: Learn when and how to finish off 2 feet and finish off 1 foot.
Become confident in creating contact when you have the ball to improve your finishing.
Session 3 – Shooting: Develop shooting off the bounce and off the catch with great
footwork and foundational shooting mechanics. Great shooters are made, not born.
Session 4 – Use Screens and Cuts to Score: Effective offense is about pace and space. Learn how to create space and use space for scoring solutions. Learning how to read and anticipate defenses.

Basketball is a game played against other players, unfortunately many skill trainers use “on air” or “cones” for spacing and defense. It is essential that young players learn how to find and create space, read and react to defenders, make quick decisions and make plays. This weekly camp will use player vs player competitions to help apply skills and develop basketball decision making and play making. This camp will be fun and engaging and yet will focus on high level instruction.
